Ruth S. Ambrose, 87


Ruth Sutphin Ambrose, 87, of Chestnut Grove Road, Winchester, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Ambrose was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Page County, and was the daughter of Hubert Lee and Mary Burner Brumback.

She was a home economics teacher at James Wood High School for 27 years and was a member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She received her bachelor’s degree from Madison College and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, W. Russell Sutphin, in 1983, and her second husband, Omer R. Ambrose, in 1996.

Survivors include three sons, Charles W. Sutphin, Jay C. Sutphin and Robert L. Sutphin, all of Frederick County; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Elder Ernest M. Long will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
