Glenn M. Altizer, 70


Glenn M. Altizer, 70, of Monterey, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at the home of his son.

Mr. Altizer was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Staunton, and was the son of the late Robert and Mary Griffin Altizer.

He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with more than 30 years of employment. He was an honorary member of the Singing Pines Hunt Club.

On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Geneva Gray Varner, who preceded him in death Sept. 19, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Glenn M. Altizer Jr. of Staunton; a daughter, Ina Jean Varner Martin of Grottoes; four sisters, Hazel Ailer, Isabelle O’Neil, Charlotte Griffin and Peggy Altizer; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Scott Stevens will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell. Burial will be at Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
