Stanley E. Alt, 86


Stanley Edwin Alt, 86, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Alt was born May 9, 1920, in Landes, W.Va., and was a son of the late Victor Clyde Alt and Joy (Alt) Alt.

He retired in 1983 from Potomac Edison. He was a member of Gordon Chapel United Methodist Church and Landes Ruritan Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eulala Shreve Alt; two sons, Neal Alt of Winchester, and Don Alt of Petersburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Barbara Alt of Petersburg; two sisters, Beverly Bowers and Betty Calhoun, both of Petersburg; a brother, Forrest "Buck" Alt of Petersburg; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Revs. Gary Phillips and Stanley Kile will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va. Burial will be at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg with military honors by the combined veteran organizations of Grant County and JROTC.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Gordon Chapel United Methodist Church or Landes Ruritan Club.
