Martha R. Alt, 88


Martha Rebecca Alt, 88, of Elkins Regional Health Center in Elkins, W.Va., and formerly of Petersburg, W.Va., died Monday, June 11, 2007, at the center.

Mrs. Alt was born July 21, 1918, in Brushy Run, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Jacob A. Hedrick and Mary "Molly" Rexrode Hedrick.

She retired from the Petersburg Bag Company and Windsor Knit. She attended Alt Schoolhouse and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Petersburg V.F.D. Ladies’ Auxiliary and Memorial Church of the Brethren.

Her husband of 72 years, Arthur C. Alt., preceded her in death Oct. 16, 2006. They were married Aug. 1, 1934.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosalie Leatherman of Alamogordo, N.M., and Elinor Evans of Beverly, W.Va.; a son, Arthur C. "Buddy" Alt Jr. of Valley Bend, W.Va.; three sisters, Elva Ratliff and Mary Alexander, both of Harrisonburg, and Juanita Miller of Luray; two brothers, Vernon Hedrick and Jacob A. Hedrick Jr., both of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Harold Cullers will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Thursday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va. Burial will be at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.
