Elizabeth S. Alt

Elizabeth Susan "Betty" Shanholtz Alt, 79, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Monday, June 9, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Alt was born March 3, 1924, in Petersburg, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Guy and Mernie Kimble Shanholtz.

She graduated from Petersburg High School in 1942. She and her husband owned and operated the former Monarch Mills in Petersburg for several years. She was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church and the Petersburg Chapter 146 Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, Roswell H. Alt, preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1998.

She is survived by a son, Randall H. Alt of Petersburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Rebecca S. Lanhardt of Fredericksburg; a sister, Winnie Mae Vance of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Donald K. Shanholtz of Annandale, and Virgil S. Shanholtz of Brandywine, W.Va.; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Richard L. Longbon will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grove Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va., where the Petersburg Chapter 146 OES will conduct a service at 7:30 this evening.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Petersburg Chapter 146 OES or to a charity of choice.
