Melvin J. Almarode

Melvin J. Almarode, 78, of 1411 N. Delphine Ave., Waynesboro, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his home. He was born in Augusta County, the son of the late Lacy James Almarode and Margaret Dell Wiseman Almarode. His wife, Louise Brown Almarode, died April 27, 2001.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Loyd P. Almarode.

He is survived by a son, Melvin J. Almarode Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Orange, Va.; a daughter, Juliann A. Smith and her husband, Thomas W. of Waynesboro; two brothers, Carl K. Almarode and his wife, Jenny, of Lyndhurst and Willie R. Almarode and his wife, Carey of Waynesboro; one sister, Charlene A. Woodard of Fredericksburg; Va.; two grandchildren, Malaika Rogers and her husband, David, of Madison, Va., and Lee Smith and his wife, Mary, of New Market, Va.; and three great-granddaughters, Alexandra Rogers, Elizabeth Smith and Hannah Smith.

He was an active member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and a lifetime member of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew. He was co-owner of L&M Drywall and an Army veteran of World War II.

Pastor Edward L. Carl will conduct a graveside service at Riverview Cemetery on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at 3 p.m. with military rites by Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. Following the service, the family will receive friends and light refreshments will be served. The family will also receive friends at the residence at other times.
