Ruth L. Alley

Ruth Lowe Alley, 87, of Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002.

Mrs. Alley was born March 1, 1915, in Tazewell County, and was a daughter of the late Mathias Harmon Lowe Sr. and Sarah Ellis Lowe.

She was a member of the Tazewell Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, held offices in the Women of the Church and taught Sunday school. She belonged to the Tazewell Garden Club, Tazewell Literary Club and did volunteer work with underprivileged children in Middlesboro, Ky.

On July 4, 1936, she married Marvin L. Alley, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1999.

She is survived by a son, J. Wayne Alley of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Sarah A. Boney of Staunton; two sisters, Clara Nunan and Roberta Williams; a brother, Mathias H. Lowe; and four grandchildren.

Her body will be cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Lea Nursing Home or the Tazewell Presbyterian Church.
