Peggy Ann ‘Joce' Smith Allen, 56


Peggy Ann "Joce" Smith Allen, 56, a resident of Harrisonburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010, at her home.

A daughter of the late David L. and Nancy Hoover Smith, she was born on July 18, 1953, in Rockingham County, where she grew up. She lived her entire life in the Shenandoah Valley and was a member of Victory Temple Church.

Mrs. Allen retired after 17 years at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department and was also a travel coordinator with Massanutten Resort for 15 years. She enjoyed her time with her dog, "Benji", and working in her flowerbeds.

On June 6, 1986, she married Larry P. Allen, who preceded her in death on March 13, 1993.

She is survived by a son, John W. Gentry of Harrisonburg; three sisters, Nancy Knight and Doris Payne, both of Harrisonburg, and Carol Breeden of Elkton; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Sylvia Caldwell, of Hinton. A brother, Jake smith, preceded her in death on May 26, 1994.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Arnold D. Repass officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Clinton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
