Mary Johnson Allen, 97, of Charlottesville, Virginia, departed this life on
January 2, 2023, at her residence. She was born in Charlottesville, Va. on
February 19, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Lucille Brown
Johnson. She was the wife of the late Harry V. Allen.
She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Apex Beauty School where
she trained as a beautician.
Mary was a member of Zion Union Baptist Church and a member of the
Willing Hands Ministry and a faithful choir member until her health declined.
She spent her career as a self-employed Hair Stylist.
Her son Gerald Allen; a sister, Edith Scott; two nephews, Leon Scott and
Wesley Scott; and a niece Elizabeth "Trudy" Scott preceded her in death.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory two grandsons, Spencer Washington and
Krewzs Williams, and two devoted nephews, Howard "Sid" Scott and William
Murdock Scott.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6,
2023, at J. F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at
Zion Union Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
