Elizabeth A. Allen, 88



Mrs. Elizabeth Mae (Allen) Allen, 88, of Hurdle Mills, N.C., and formerly of Shenandoah, Va., died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Brian Center of Yanceyville, N.C.

The funeral was held Wednesday, March 9, at the Brooks and White Chapel, Roxboro, N.C. The Revs. Alan Bottoms and Chase Chambers officiated. Burial was in the Allen family cemetery in Hurdle Mills. Pallbearers were Doug Chambers, David Harrison, Joseph Allen, Ray Allen, August Edelberg and Barry Rudder.

Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., Mrs. Allen was the daughter of the late Charlie Gilbert and Carrie Lee Evans Allen. She was married to the late Alvin Yancey Allen Sr.

She is survived by her children, Alvin Yancey Allen Jr. of Franklinville, N.J., Jerry Wayne Allen of Grottoes, Va., Garland Ray Allen of Mamers, Robert Eugene Allen of Hurdle Mills, Janice Marie Edelberg of Orange, Va., and Susan Elizabeth Willingham of Remington, Va.; a brother, Thomas Allen of Texas; a sister, Mamie Lex of Richmond, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Allen was a member of Clement Baptist Church for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Bushy Fork Grange.
