Jessie H. Alger, 95


Jessie H. Alger, age 95, of 3245 White Oak Drive in Harrisonburg, Va., died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Alger was born March 14, 1911, in Newport, Va., and was a daughter of the late John Hitt and Maggie Blanche (Bumgardner) Hitt.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Newport Christian Church. Her husband was employed with Melpar Electronics in Falls Church, Va. for 30 years. When he retired, they moved to Stanley, where they resided until his death when she moved to Harrisonburg to live with her daughter.

On March 17, 1929, she married Emmett E. Alger, who died Dec. 27, 1977.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances M. Buracker of Bridgewater and Betty J. Housden of Harrisonburg; a grandson, Bill Buracker of Bridgewater; a granddaughter, Janie St. Clair of Stuarts Draft; two sisters, Irene Higgs and Grace Foltz, both of Shenandoah; and four great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Walter E. Lundblad will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Newport Cemetery in Shenandoah.

Friends may register from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 Wednesday before the service.

Arrangements are by the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.
