Evelyn M. Alger, 86


Evelyn Mae Louderback Alger, 86, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 10, 2009, at Ann Lede Assisted Living in Roanoke.

She was born in Shenandoah on Feb. 2, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Foltz Louderback.

Evelyn lived most all of her life in the Shenandoah area and attended Stanley schools. She was an active member of Newport United Church of Christ and Shenandoah Crafters.

In 1940, she married Elmer G. Alger Sr., who preceded her in death on May 7, 1991.

She is survived by two sons, Elmer G. Alger Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Waynesboro, Larry Alger and wife, Jane, of Roanoke; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorene Jenkins and husband, Jim, of Shenandoah; and many devoted loving nieces and nephews.

The family received friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Newport United Church of Christ with the Rev. Walter Lundblad officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
