Alda M. Alger, 81


Alda Mae Alger, 81, of 1262 River Road in Stanley, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Alger was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Stanley, and was a daughter of the late Leonard Andrew Dovel and Mattie Florence Smelser Dovel.

She retired as a seamstress at Blue Bell, where she worked for over 25 years. She was a member of Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren.

On March 17, 1947, she married Emory Ray Alger, who preceded her in death Feb. 28, 2008.

She is survived by a brother, Ralph Lee Dovel of Stanley, and two sisters, Vida M. “Billie” Young and Lucille Dovel Houser of Stanley.

The Revs. Eric Croft and Kenneth Graff will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren, where visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may also call at the home of her brother at anytime. Burial will be at Leake’s Chapel Cemetery in Stanley.

The body will be taken to the church 10 a.m. Tuesday.
