Gladys A. Alford, 84


Gladys Adamson Alford, 84, of Dayton, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Alford was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Onego, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Bruce and Opal Sites Adamson.

She lived her early life in Onego, W.Va. and the majority of her life in Dayton, where she graduated from Dayton High School.

Survivors include two sons, Robert R. Alford of Dayton, and Steven B. Alford of Louisa; a daughter, Susan B. Carter of Grottoes; a brother, Jim Adamson of Rockledge, Fla.; two sisters, who were also caregivers, Doris Marquess of Dayton and Naomi Spencer of College Park, Md.; 11 grandchildren, including Gary E. Tolliver, whom she raised; 10 great-grandchildren; and caregiver, Mike Marquess, of Dayton.

The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at the Dayton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 this evening at the funeral home.
