David Henry Alderfer

David Henry Alderfer, 95, died Nov. 13, 2002, at Oak Lea Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past three years.

Mr. Alderfer was born Sept. 7, 1907, in Souderton, Pa., and was the son of the late Henry S. and Annie Burkholder Alderfer.

He was chaplain and manager of the Hospitality Center in Aspen, Colo., from 1961 until 1974. He worked as a sales manager for the Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale, Pa., for many years. He and his wife moved to the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in 1988. He was a member of the Park View Mennonite Church.

On March 27, 1932, he married the former Mary Histand, who preceded him in death on June 12, 1998.

Surviving are five sons, Joseph Alderfer of Harrisonburg, Frederick Alderfer and Daniel Alderfer of Aspen, Colo., Edward Alderfer of Hamilton, Ohio, James Alderfer of Orville, 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Strite Auditorium of VMRC with the Revs. Dan Longenecker and Sam Janzen officiating. Burial will be private at Lindale Mennonite Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at McMullen Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Saturday.
