Melvin L. Adkins

Melvin Leon Adkins, 93, of McGaheysville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Adkins was born May 3, 1918, in Harrisonburg, and was the last surviving child of the late Charles Edward and Barbara Emswiller Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly A. Shoemaker, two brothers and three sisters.

Melvin was a WWII Navy veteran and worked for Merck, where he retired after 38 years.

On Nov. 22, 1939, he married Almeda Pearl Miller Adkins, who preceded him in death on March 26, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters. Peggy A. Nadeau and Alice J. Adkins; a son, Ronald L. Adkins; 14 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great- grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Roger Hart and Frank Nadeau officiating.

Friends may come by the Adkins home at anytime.
