Woodbine Cemetery. Compared to 1960s recording by the D.A.R. Martha Lee walked Section 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12; Bob and Lois Emswiler walked 1, 2, 5, 10, 11, 13.
Cemetery Notes
Refer to MAP which shows location for Section 1 through 13. Rows are recorded in each section from west to east and facing the headstones they are recorded from right to left (north to south). Section 5 is the Confederate Soldiers graves and monument. Section 10 includes area known as "Little Arlington." Section 11 is the Community Mausoleum and has a left wing (Row 001) and a right wing (Row 002); a north wall and a south wall. Refer to "REMARKS" column. Only the burials were recorded, using their assigned numbers, and from top to bottom. In 1944 Tommy Bassford wrote in his book "Landmarks and Personages of Old Harrisonburg" on Page 14 he noted, the first plot of Woodbine was bought October 11, 1850. The first interment was George Conrad. The Confederate plot was laid out in 1862. The Community Mausoleum was erected in 1926. The Colored cemetery plot was purchased in 1868.
