Moore Family Cemetery. This recording was compared against the D.A.R. 1960s list, J.W. Wayland 1940 list and some family records.
Cemetery Notes
Cemetery is enclosed by iron fence which replaced a previous stone fence and is in fair condition. Outside to the west are graves of many colored servants of the first four generations. The crude stone markers have long since disappeared. The late Reuben W. Moore of Staunton, Virginia, and the later Thomas Moore, who lived on the western section of Mooreland Farm, had a substantial marble marker placed in the center of the cemetery when they built the iron fence about 1950. This marker contains all the names of the Moores buried there beginning with Thomas Moore - the Pioneer 1727-1797 To the infant daughter of Otis F. & Sallie Zirke Moore. This memorial stone has several inconsistencies with the dates listed on the tombstones. Many of the tombstones are exactly alike. It can be assumed the tombstones were not erected at the time of the deaths, therefore, there is a possibility that the dates on the tombstones are incorrect. Dr. R.E.L. Strickler of Bridgewater, Virginia, placed the markers for colored servants Daniel & Loucinda Beasley, who were buried within the fence.

North Rockingham County, Virginia. From Harrisonburg, take Route 11 (No. Valley Pike) several miles and just before the Mooreland home, turn right onto Route 796 (Moores Mill Road). Go about ½ mile and just before you cross Smith Creek, cemetery is on the right side of road in a field. Need permission from owners living at Mooreland home to enter cemetery.
